Transcultural Media Education on Artificial Intelligence

Within the project Transcultural Media Education with Artifical Intelligence, the research team at the Chair of School Pedagogy develops and empirically evaluates a theory-driven pedagogical concept following a design-based educational research approach. The concept is implemented in a synchronous hybrid teaching and learning course as part of the compulsory module Media Education in an International Perspective in the Master’s programme in Adult and Continuing Education at JMU. It aims to foster international students‘ media education competence.

The project follows a design-based ressearch approach. In an exploratory preliminary study, the research team investigates international students‘ perspectives on media education and its future. Building on these findings, the pedagogical concept is refined and increasingly adapted to international teaching and learning scenarios.

As part of a semester-long project within the course, students engage with key aspects of media education from the perspectives of Artifical Intelligence and transcultural perspectives. They explore the underlying conditions, theoretical approaches, and existing as well as own examples of media education activities. The project aims to support students in progressively developing and reflecting on their own theory-based pedagogical concepts to foster media literacy among learners in adult and continuing education.
