Practice-Oriented Teacher Education with Extended Reality

The project Practice-Oriented Teacher Education with Extended Reality is based on a collaboration between the Chair of School Pedagogy, the Office of the Ministerial Representative for Secondary Schools (Realschulen) in Lower Franconia, and the Information Technology Advisor for Digital Education (iBdB) for Secondary Schools (Realschulen) in Lower Franconia.

In a design-based educational research approach, the team of the Chair of School Pedagogy develops and empirically evaluates a theory-based pedagogical concept. The concept fosters pre-service teachers in their media education competence with a focus on extended reality and transcultural perspectives. Furthermore, the project aims to bring together key stakeholders in teacher education across higher education and schools and to strengthen the connection between educational theory and classroom practice.

As part of advanced courses in School Pedagogy, pre-service teachers at JMU engage with key aspects of media education, including its underlying conditions, theoretical approaches, and existing examples. Building on this foundation, they develop their own theory-based pedagogical concepts to foster school students' media literacy. Subsequently, these concepts are implemented at Realschulen in Lower Franconia. In the future, the project will be expanded to a focus on additional technologies and other school types.
