Media Education Focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Diversity

Artificial intelligence and increasing societal diversity are transforming educational processes and posing new challenges for media education. The research project Media Education Focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Diversity investigates how these developments can be integrated into and leveraged within higher education teaching.

The project aims to develop and empirically evaluate theory-informed pedagogical concepts for higher education. These concepts are designed to support master's students in adult and continuing education in reflecting on and further developing their media education competence. Particular emphasis is placed on international perspectives and on exploring how artificial intelligence and diversity can be meaningfully integrated into educational processes.

Methodologically, the project is grounded in a design-based research approach, combining the generation of scientific knowledge with the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative educational concepts.

The developed concepts are implemented and evaluated in the master's seminar Media Education in an International Perspective, following the principles of diversity-sensitive teaching. As part of a semester-long project, international students critically engage with the conditions, theoretical approaches, and both existing and self-developed examples of media education practice. In doing so, they reflect on the role and implications of artificial intelligence and diversity in educational processes.
