Prof. Miriam Douglas

Prof. Dr. Miriam Roth Douglas is a tenured Full Professor of Education and the Coordinating Director of the Community Education Program in the College of Education and Human Performance at West Liberty University (WLU), West Virginia, USA. Her interdisciplinary and international educational background consists of an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education and an M.A. in Foreign Languages from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, USA; where she also spent one year as Fulbright Scholar.In addition, she earned an educational teaching degree from Otto-Friedrich University in Bamberg, Germany.
Her academic work and research studies are strongly informed by lifelong learning through her active involvement in nonprofit and cultural organizations, with a focus on connecting universities, communities, and global learning. She teaches and leads undergraduate and graduate programs including the B.A. in Community Education, the M.A. in Community and Organizational Leadership, and the Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership, Management, and Innovation. These programs are grounded in European models of experiential learning, civic engagement, and service integration, and are offered in both online and face-to-face formats. She actively supports global engagement at WLU in her roles as Academic Coordinator for Global West Virginia and Co-Chair of the Internationalization Committee. She also coordinates, leads, and teaches study abroad programs to Europe (e.g. as guest lecturer and instructor at summer programs and academies in Fulda University of Applied Sciences and Leuphana University Lüneburg) and spearheaded the formal partnership between WLU and Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (Germany).
Her research focuses on community education, non-formal, out-of-school, experiential learning, flexible and creative learning environments, and lifelong learning. She is also involved in research and development of the internationalization of (higher) education and the globalization of academic curricula.
