Presentation of Research Results from the Horizon 2020 Project ARETE at the IEEE GEM Conference

11/21/2023

On November 21st, 2023, Dr. Jennifer Tiede presented research results from the project ARETE at the IEEE CTSoc Conference "Gaming, Entertainment and Media" (GEM) at the University of the West Indies, Barbados. The study focussed on an analysis of the motivational effects of gamified Augmented Reality learning apps for STEM education.

Dr. Jennifer Tiede presented results from the study seeking to evaluate the motivational effects of gamified Augmented Reality apps on students when learning mathematics and geography. In the study, which was realized in the context of the European Horizon 2020 project Augmented Reality Interactive Educational System (ARETE), it was found that students who worked with the piloted AR apps attributed a slighly higher motivational effect to the teaching and learning unit in question, compared to students from the control group who worked on the same teaching and learning unit without Augmented Reality apps. Furthermore, the results revealed a comparable correlation of motivation and self-efficacy in both groups.

All in all, data from 1988 students and 91 teachers were included in the analysis.

These and further results will soon be available in the paper:
