Direct admission

For direct admission to the Master in Educational Science you need:

A Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS) in education or a comparable field of study.
Proof of basic pedagogical knowledge of at least 40 ECTS credits in the following areas

    1) Fundamentals of educational theory (at least 5 ECTS credits)
    2) Advanced educational theory (at least 5 ECTS credits)
    3) Historical pedagogy (min. 5 ECTS credits)
    4) Empirical Research Methods and Empirical Educational Research (min. 10 ECTS)

An overall grade point average of at least 2.5 or a grade point average of at least 2.5 in the basic pedagogical knowledge listed above

Deferred admission

In order to enable an uninterrupted transition from the Bachelor's to the Master's program, a deferred admission to the Master's program is possible under the following conditions:

Proof of a total of at least 150 ECTS credits at the time of application in the first degree program
Proof of basic pedagogical knowledge of at least 40 ECTS credits from the following areas

    1) Fundamentals of educational theory (at least 5 ECTS credits)
    2) Advanced educational theory (at least 5 ECTS credits)
    3) Historical pedagogy (min. 5 ECTS credits)
    4) Empirical Research Methods and Empirical Educational Research (min. 10 ECTS)

An overall grade point average of at least 2.5 or a grade point average of at least 2.5 in the basic pedagogical skills listed above.

Full completion of the first degree must be demonstrated no later than the re-registration deadline for the third semester of study in the Master's program in Educational Science.

Frequently asked questions about the Master's application

Subsequent achievements in the case of deferred (conditional) admission must be proven by the end of the re-registration period for the third semester at the latest.

University diploma or transcript of records:

Applicants who already have a university degree certificate should include a certified copy of that certificate with their application. For those who apply with only the grade point average of the compulsory area in education, it is necessary to attach the transcript of records (of all subjects studied) in addition to the university degree certificate.
For those who apply under the condition of deferred admission, provisionally only...

the transcript of records (of all fields of study) with an average grade calculated by the university for the work performed to date

...must be enclosed with the application.

It is a list of all study achievements. As the grade certificates are available in different versions, please make sure that the grade certificate also lists the submodules, each with the assigned ECTS score and the grade achieved. It must also contain the grade average of all examinations taken (so far). This is urgently needed for a quick processing of applications!

Applicants who have studied the Bachelor of Education in Würzburg can download the transcript of records themselves at WueStudy. You will find the required document under:

My studies > Student services > Requested Reports/Reports > Certificates for grades and examinations > List of modules student has passed (with verification code)

or

My studies > My achievements > Reports > List of modules student has passed (with verification code)

Please submit the certified transcripts of records for all study subjects.

In the case of foreign degrees, you must first have your achievements recognized by the Service Centre InterNational Transfer. For this purpose, various forms, certificates and transcripts must be submitted. Please contact the Service Centre InterNational Transfer for more information. After successful recognition, an application to the Chair of Philosophy of Education is necessary.

You can also apply without a Bachelor's degree or the required 180 ECTS credits if you submit the necessary remaining achievements by the end of the re-registration period for the third semester. In this case, you apply for conditional admission.

Requirements to be met are:

At least 150 ECTS points in your first degree and
Competences from modules amounting to at least 40 ECTS points from the following four areas:

Fundamentals of education and educational theory (at least 5 ECTS credits).
Deepening of educational theory (at least 5 ECTS credits)
Historical pedagogy (min. 5 ECTS credits)
Empirical research methods and empirical educational research (min. 10 ECTS)

The required application documents in this case are the completed application form and your transcript of records. In the application form, please check the box "I hereby apply for admission with deferring conditions", so that it can be understood why individual achievements are still missing.

In the application process, you are supposed to make an assignment in which you list the achievements you have already made. Here, the question might arise which achievements can be assigned to which field of study. Please refer to the content descriptions in the module handbook of the Würzburg Bachelor of Education program.

The modules in the compulsory area correspond to the required study areas.

When filling out the table, please make sure not to list entire modules, but rather the sub-modules with your achievements according to your transcript of records (Teilmodulbescheinigung). If the content of the course is not evident from the title of the sub-modules, please also complete the titles of the individual courses.
